Notes

The Story Behind the Name The Blue Long Island Iced Tea is a vibrant spin on the original Long Island Iced Tea, which famously contains no tea. It’s a modern classic that takes its name from its appearance—the clear sodas and Blue Curaçao give it a vibrant blue hue, reminiscent of a tropical ocean. It is also famously known as the "Adios, Motherfucker" or AMF cocktail.
Tips for a Perfect Cocktail
  • The Color is Key: The beautiful blue color comes from the Blue Curaçao. For an even more stunning effect, you can use a clear soda like Sprite instead of lemonade, which will give the drink a brighter, more electric blue color.
  • Serve It Cold: With so many spirits, this drink is best served ice-cold. Shake the ingredients vigorously and serve it over plenty of fresh ice to keep it refreshing.
  • Batch for a Crowd: This recipe is perfect for scaling up for a large party. Just keep the proportions, mix the liquors and Blue Curaçao in a pitcher, and top each individual glass with chilled soda just before serving.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
  • Is the Blue Long Island Iced Tea very strong? Yes, this is a very potent cocktail. It contains five different spirits, and its sweet, fruity flavor makes it dangerously easy to drink. It is a party drink that should be consumed responsibly.
  • What does it taste like? It has a sweet and tart citrus flavor, with a complex blend of notes from the different liquors. The Blue Curaçao provides a distinct orange flavor, which is balanced by the lemonade.
