The wing flavour that universally gets the ‘oh — wow’ reaction on the first bite. Sticky, sweet, kissed with enough garlic to keep vampires (and close-talkers) at bay. The honey caramelises on the grill into a high-gloss lacquer. The butter and soy round out the salt. The lemon at the end cuts through the richness and stops everyone going into a coma.
If you’ve never made wings before, start here. They’re the easiest of the eight to nail, and the most likely to start an argument over who gets the last one.

Honey Garlic Wings
Sticky sweet honey-garlic wings with butter, soy, and lemon. The crowd-pleaser that disappears first.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken wings
Rub
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
Sauce
- 125 g unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp minced garlic
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey 60 ml
- 1 lemon juice only
Instructions
Method
- Mix rub ingredients and toss with wings. Rest 20 minutes.
- Heat grill to 190°C (375°F), indirect heat.
- Grill 45-60 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy and 82°C (180°F) internal.
- While wings cook: melt butter in a saucepan, add garlic and cook 1 minute. Add soy, honey, lemon juice. Simmer 2 minutes.
- Toss wings in glaze. Serve immediately.

Notes
Want extra garlic? Roast a whole bulb of garlic, mash, and add to the sauce. Insanely good.
Sesame upgrade. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top. Looks fancy. Costs nothing.
